Change is an unavoidable part of everyday life.It happens as time passes or as a consequence of one's decision.Changes may be positive or negative depending on how we understand them.Whereas some people are happy to live a life of routine, others accept changes and prefer a challenging world where events are unpredictable.
From one point of view, people who accept changes think that changes make their life meaningful.Firstly, changes create new opportunities, which makes us leap forward.A new job,for instance, might present challenges that push the person to adapt, acquire new knowledge,or add to their skill set.Secondly,a change can represent a break with the past and an old routine which has become boring and predictable. Finally,as well as making life more fun and interesting, new experiences can be good for our physical and mental health. We find that changes can make us experienced.
On the other hand, people who don't want to step outside their comfort zone prefer following their daily habits. They feel satisfied with their circumstances.Perhaps they feel that a routine gives them structure,or maybe they are not fond of surprises or confident enough to face new challenges. They believe that staying secure and maintaining the present circumstances is the best way to live a safer life.Such people have set time for performing certain functions and do things in the same way all the time. They fear the uncertainty of the unknown and may associate change with negative outcomes. For example, transition in position or status gives people worries as to whether they can manage a new task.
Both sides seem to have their own advantages. However,I personally think change is necessary if someone wants to keep up with the fast pace of modern life.Even if some people maintain a form of stability by following a routine, the world keeps spinning and evolving.Without change there would be no life at all.Our lives are actually fueled by change and seeing change as natural and unavoidable will bring us considerable stress relief.

Natalie Doan,14,has always felt lucky to live in Rockaway,New York.Living just a few blocks from the beach,Natalie can see the ocean and hear the wave from her house. "It's the ocean that makes Rockaway so special," she says.
On October 29,2012,that ocean turned fierce. That night,Hurricane Sandy attacked the East Coast, and Rockaway was hit especially hard.Fortunately,Natalie's family escaped to Brooklyn shortly before the city's bridge closed.
When they returned to Rockaway the next day, they found their neighborhood in ruins. Many of Natalie's friends had lost their homes and were living far away. All around her, people were suffering, especially the elderly.Natalie's school was so damaged that she had to temporarily attend a school in Brooklyn.
In the following few days, the men and women helping Rockaway recover inspired Natalie.Volunteers came with carloads of donated clothing and toys.Neighbors devoted their spare time to helping others rebuild.Teenagers climbed dozens of flights of stairs to deliver water and food to elderly people trapped in powerless highrise buildings.
"My mom tells me that I can't control what happens to me," Natalie says,"but I can always choose how I deal with it."
Natalie's choice was to help.
She created a website page matching survivors in need with donors who wanted to help.Natalie posted introduction about a boy named Patrick, who lost his baseball card collecting when his house burned down.Within days,Patrick's collection was replaced.
In the coming months, her website page helped lots of kids:Christopher, who received a new basketball;Charlie, who got a new keyboard.Natalie also worked with other organizations to bring much-need supplies to Rockaway. Her efforts made her a famous person.Last April, she was invited to the White House and honored as a Hurricane Sandy Champion of Change.
Today, the scars(瘡痍)of destruction are still seen in Rockaway, but hope is in the air.The streets are clear, and many homes have been rebuilt. "I can't imagine living anywhere but Rockaway," Natalie declares."My neighborhood will be back, even stronger than before."

A trained Search and Rescue (SAR) dog can help us locate victims of natural disasters, accidents and crime. So,do you want to train your dog for search and rescue work?A dog that is friendly and approachable makes for a fantastic search dog. While it is true that training a puppy(小狗)is definitely easier,it doesn't mean that training a grown dog is a lost cause.Puppies need to interact with several humans of all ages as much as possible,so that they become more approachable.
Take your dog out on regular walks in the park, make him run and sweat regularly.SAR dogs are required to be good at swimming, hiking and walking in various areas that aren't safe.Ideally, this dog needs to be exposed to all the elements of nature so that the conditions during an actual task don't take him by surprise.
An average dog can hear sounds between frequencies ranging from 40 Hz(赫茲)to 60 kHz,which is really sharp.A SAR dog,on several occasions, needs to take helicopter, snowmobile or speed boat rides, which can be really noisy for their sensitive ears.Dogs that are used to harsh sounds perform well under any circumstances, and those sharp ears always come in handy to locate sounds that even humans can't hear.
Following a scent(氣味)is a quality that comes naturally to all dogs.To train your dog to follow the scent, you'll need a piece of cloth and three or four small buckets(桶).The buckets should be placed close to each other in the upside down position. Then, take the piece of cloth and let the dog smell it.This piece of cloth should be taken away from the dog and placed under one of the buckets.
Allow the dog to smell your clothing and secretly hide in another room.Let another person command the dog to find you. When the dog has found you successfully,a reward in the form of a treat should follow. As your training advances, you must repeat this exercise using different people, and on different outdoor locations, under varied weather conditions and at different time of the day.

When you are learning English, listening, speaking and writing are important, but reading can also be very helpful. When you read, you can not only learn some new words, but also you can learn how to use these English words. When you read,it gives you a good example for writing.
Read something that you can(more or less) understand. If you need to stop every three words to use a dictionary,it is not interesting.Reading books with a reasonable number of new words is very important. If there are four or five new words on a page, write them in your notebook. But you don't have to write them while you read.Instead, try to guess their meaning as you read, and mark them with a pen. Then come back when you have finished reading to look them up in a dictionary and write them in your own vocabulary book. Then try to remember them.
You should develop a good habit of reading. For example, read for a short time once a day.Fifteen minutes every day is better than two hours every Sunday.Fix(固定)a time to read and keep to it.You could read for fifteen minutes when you go to bed,or when you get up or at lunchtime.
There are a variety of books in the bookstore,so what kinds of books should you choose?Choose a book or a magazine about a subject that you like, because you are going to spend time and money reading it.So,choose an interesting book. You can also read newspapers. There are many English newspapers in China, for example,21st Century Teens. It is easy enough for you to understand it.There is something interesting in it.
