62.A recent study found that only 9% of teenagers in the United States smoke cigarettes. That's down from 23% in 2000.While this is good news for health, smoking is still a problem.
Cigarettes have been linked to cancer, lung disease, heart conditions, and high blood pressure.Although teenagers know these bad effects, they still smoke.Every day almost 3,900 children under 18 years of age try their first smokers. If it continues like this,5.8 million children alive today will die as a result of smoking.
The campaign(運(yùn)動(dòng)) is working to end teenagers smoking. It uses social media to spread information about the dangers of smoking. "If we all join force---smokers and non-smokers---we can end smoking once and for all," the campaign leader says. The campaign encourages teenagers not to judge, but instead to learn the facts. "We're not here to comment your choices,or tell you not to smoke. We're here to arm everyone with the tools to make a change," they say.
Anti-smoking campaigns may have a new problem to worry about.A 2013 report found that the use of electronic cigarettes is on the rise.High school students who reported ever using an electronic cigarette rose from 4.7% in 2011 to 10% in 2012. 'The increased use of e-cigarettes by teenagers is deeply troubling.Scientists are still researching exactly how harmful e-cigarettes are.
Harmful effects of smoking do not end with the smoker.About 88 million non-smoking Americans, including 54% of children between the ages of 3 and 11,are uncovered to second-hand smoke.Even brief exposure can be dangerous.
Anti-smoking campaigns have become more popular. Some colleges and other outdoor areas across the country haven't allowed smoking altogether.
As of October 27,21,615 children and teenagers have joined the Truth campaign and promised not to smoke. The group hopes that they can give young people the knowledge to be the generation(一代) that ends smoking.

63.Eating food is enjoyable, but cooking can be challenging. For those who don't have basic cooking skills,or are too busy working or traveling, one thing can save them-- instant noodles.
This year marks the 61st anniversary of the invention of instant noodles.Ever since they were created by Japanese businessman Momofuku Ando in 1958,instant noodles have been popular around the world. In China, the product has almost become a necessity for those who travel by train.
There are some fun facts about instant noodles:The total length of the noodles in one package is 51 meters. The first instant noodles were considered a luxury product. When they first came to Japanese supermarkets in 1958,they were 6 times the cost of fresh udon noodles.Japanese people even voted instant noodles as one of their best inventions of the 20th century.
For instant noodles,as well as many other "instant" foods, convenience is the key selling point. They are supposed to make our lives easier.
_____.For example,in wars, soldiers eat compressed biscuits and canned meat because they don't need to cook these foods. And in the 1960s,frozen dinners of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables became popular in the US.This is because more women started working and had no time to cook.
In recent years, however, online meal-ordering services have brought challenge to instant foods.Uber Eats is a popular app of this kind in the United States. In China,we have Ele.me,Dianping and Meituan. These services offer not only convenience, but also more choices and tastier food.According to the World Instant Noodle Association, instant noodle sales dropped by 17 percent in China as of 2016.
