(1) D D I don't think I can talk fluently because it's difficult for me to remember all the words.(2) A A When I come face to face with the audience, where should I focus my eyes?Do I have to look forward,or look around from time to time?(3) F F When I am talking,I can't help waving my hands, for I think it can help me express what I want to say better. But my classmates say I look funny and foolish by doing this.(4) B B I know that it's not right to speak fast. But I am afraid that I can't finish my talk in the given time if I speak slowly.(5) G G Should I talk in American English or British English? |
A.Look at the audience(觀眾).Looking at and talking to one person in the audience helps keep you natural, but it feels foolish talking to only one person.Speak to that person as long as 15 seconds and then change to another one. B.Don't speak too fast! The audience has a hard time understanding what they hear. They need your help.Slow down, pause(停頓) and guide the audience through your talk.Remember that you should help the audience understand what you are saying. C.Lower your voice!Make your voice a little lower than normal.Listeners like to hear a relatively(相對)deep voice. D.Talk, but don't recite(背誦).When you talk, try to be as natural as possible.Don't try to memorize your words and read or recite them to your audience. You can use short notes to help you remember the important points. E.Use simple words. You should know that you and most of the people you talk to are different in many ways. Some of them may not know what you are talking about. Then speak to them in more simple language. F.Word works!Concentrate on what you want to say.If you are always paying attention to gestures(手勢),people won't focus on your message. G.English has no differences. It's true that there are some differences between American English and British English, but they'll not cause much difficulty for listeners,so just speak the way you're used to. |

2.Dear Laura,
Thanks for your message.Yes,I'm having a great time on my student exchange program in France.I was a bit nervous before I arrived here, but there was no reason to be.My host family is really nice. They go out of their way to make me feel at home. The grandmother knows that I miss Chinese food a lot.So she actually learned how to make Chinese food! She also has a teenage granddaughter about my age who is really kind. She always talks to me in French to help me practice. You wouldn't believe how quickly my French has improved because of that.I'm very comfortable speaking French now.Although I still make lots of mistakes,it doesn't worry me as it used to.
My biggest challenge is learning how to behave at the dinner table. As you can imagine, things are very different from the way they are at home. For example, you're not supposed to put your bread on your plate. You're supposed to put it on the table!I thought that was pretty strange at first, but now I'm used to it.Another example is that you're not supposed to eat anything with your hands except bread, not even fruit. You have to cut it up and eat it with a fork.Another thing is that it is impolite to say you're full.If you don't want any more food, you should just say, "That was delicious." Also, you're not supposed to put your elbows on the table.I have to say that I find it difficult to remember everything, but I'm gradually getting used to it.I don't find French customs so strange anymore.
I'll write again soon and tell you more about my life in France.Hope you're having a good school year.
Yours,
Lin Yue

Yu Le,
When I was a kid,I sold(賣) my old toys at flea markets.I even had a cola stand(攤位)!I have a few tips for you.

Second, put your toys and books into groups.(1)This will make it easy for people to see what you are selling.
Third, have fun!Even if you don't sell all of your things, you can make some new friends.I hope you(2)have a good time!
