Real Dogs VS Robot Dogs
Students in our class have different opinions on keeping real dogs or robot dogs. Here are some of their ideas.
I like keeping real pet dogs because loneliness is terrible, and I need a pet around.Whenever I look after my dog Rocky,I feel better. And my grandma benefits from taking care of it.Rocky is furry and soft, which gives us a natural sense of closeness. When I enter the front door after school every day,it is usually the first to greet me with its tail wagging.Sometimes,it will run in circles around me to get my attention, and it will roll over so that I can pet its tummy.
Tim
@Tim I don't agree to keep a real dog.Keeping robot dogs is wonderful! They don't lose hair or eat things the way real dogs do.They won't bite or scratch you. They won't sharpen their claws on your new sofa,or chew the leg off of the dining room table. What's more, your robot dogs won't have to go to the vet or die, leaving you in a state of emotional heartbreak.I enjoy living with my robot dog.
 Jack
So do I.Nowadays, the burden of keeping a real dog is quite heavy. You have to bathe it,buy clothes, and see a vet when it is sick, maybe at least two or three thousand yuan a year.In addition to paying money, there is also a burden of time and energy. Some robot dogs can do many things:they can herd sheep, walk around the fields, open doors,do some dangerous and dirty jobs instead of people and so on.@Jack

Lucy
I think both of them are fantastic. It's true that you never have to worry about giving your robot dogs water or food. They can wag their tails, play balls, move their ears back and forth and blink eyes.Robot dogs can also understand different words, such as "sit", "stay",and "come".If you want a pet dog,but worry about taking care of it,then a robot dog will be a good choice. Now robot dogs can "learn" and remember their daily experiences. However, real dogs can play with people and make them happy. They can also interact with their owners, but robot dogs just can't do this yet.

  • 2.One teacher praises a student by saying "You're so smart!" Another teacher says "You must have worked really hard at this!" Which student does better in school?Studies show that students who hear the words of the second teacher will do better. Those students are learning that their effort is important.
Psychologists(心理學(xué)家)looked at what students did after they were given different types of praise. Some students were told that they were good at a task. They didn't try very hard the next time.Other students were told that they had worked hard at a task. They worked even harder the next time. The first group of students was learning that they had a set amount of skill. They didn't think they could do any better. This is called a fixed mindset(思維模式).The second group was learning that they could do better if they kept trying. This is called a growth mindset.People who have a growth mindset believe that the brain can grow;people can do better and learn new skills. If they work hard, they can be successful.
How can teachers and parents help students succeed? They can focus mainly on effort and not simply on ability. When students succeed, teachers and parents should praise the actual work rather than intelligence(智力)or talent. When students fail, they should be told how they can do better.Teachers, parents and students need to value effort, not intelligence.
