  • 12.Not long ago,"blind box economy" suddenly became popular, winning the heart of large numbers of faithful fans.People simply get interested in it.A couple spent 200 thousand yuan on them.Another sixty-year-old guy spent over 700 thousand yuan in buying blind boxes.Statistics showed that last year 300 thousand hobbyists made deals through a second-hand shopping platform.
The blind boxes usually contain peripheral(周邊的)dolls of comics and animation,or film and television,or specially designed ones.A single blind box usually costs about thirty to fifty yuan. But there is no mark on the box,and only after opening it can the buyer see what he has bought. This is rather like buying lottery tickets, for the buyer has to bet on his luck.
However, addiction to blind box is much like that to gambling(賭博).It is highly nontransparent compared with lottery ticket.Nobody knows whether sellers of blind boxes exaggerated(夸大)the winning rate so as to attract people to buy them, thus digging a consumption trap.Besides,it is also unknown whether the objects in the blind boxes are genuine or not.The blind box economy promoted its second-hand trade. The price of some classic dolls or dolls of limited edition have skyrocketed in second-hand trade platforms, and some may reach thirty to forty times. But it is difficult for buyers to judge whether it is the result of real supply and demand,or the consequence of businessmen's tricks.
The basis of the "blind box economy" is the cultural trend of collection. Many of the target consumers are young people who have scanty experience of life. They are thus attracted by deliberately exaggerated probability of "winning a prize" and constantly throw money to buy blind boxes in order to gain dolls that they desire.Or they may buy at second-hand trade platform high-priced blind box dolls, thinking they can keep value preservation and appreciation, thus falling into the fixed pattern of trap carefully designed by businessmen.
Therefore,it is necessary to remind young people to control their consumption in case they become addicted.

(1)A couple and a sixty-year-old guy are mentioned in Para.1 to
    .
A.stress the importance of "blind box economy" to people
B.tell how much money people spend on "blind box economy"
C.show the popularity of "blind box economy" among people
D.prove older people can afford more to buy "blind box economy"
(2)Which may NOT be the contributing factor to "blind box economy"?

A.The fondness of gambling to bet on their luck.
B.The high winning rate exaggerated by sellers.
C.The blind faith in the cultural trend of collection.
D.The possibility of making a fortune in second-hand trade.
(3)The underlined word "scanty" in Para.4 probably means
    .
    A.previous
    B.inadequate
    C.personal
    D.unforgettable
(4)What's the author's purpose of writing the passage?

A.To inform readers of the "blind box economy".
B.To promote the products of "blind box economy".
C.To list the reasons behind the popularity of "blind box economy".
D.To warn the consumers to think twice before buying blind boxes.

  • 13.Microplastics are everywhere in our environment. It's hardly surprising that the tiny fragments have also been found in the human body.A new study shows that Americans are consuming as many as 121,000 particles each year.
Measuring 50 to 500 microns in length, microplastics come from a variety of sources unknown about the common existence these materials within the human body,as well as the impact on human health.
Hoping to fill in some of these gaps,a research team, led by Kieran Cox,a Ph.D candidate at the University of Victoria, looked at 26 papers assessing the number of microplastics in commonly consumed food items, among which are seafood, sugar, salt, honey, alcohol and water. The team also evaluated the potential consumption of microplastics through inhalation (吸入) using previously reported data on microplastic concentrations in the air and the Environmental Protection Agency's data on respiration rates Based on these data, the researchers calculated that our annual consumption of microplastics via foods and drinks ranges from 39,000 to 52,000 particles. When microplastics taken in through inhalation are taken into account, the range jumps to between 74,000 and 121,000 particles per year.
The authors of the study found that people who drink exclusively from plastic water bottles absorb additional 90,000 microplastics each year, compared with 4,000 among those who only consume Tap water, "This shows that small decisions, over the course of a year, really matter and have an impact. "Cox says. The new study, according to its authors, was the first to investigate accumulative human exposure to microplastics".But in all likelihood, the research tells only a small part of the entire story.Collectively, the foods and drinks that the researchers analyzed represent 15 percent of Americans caloric intake. The team could not account for food groups like fruits, vegetables and grain because there simply is not enough data on their microplastic content.
For those who worried about microplastic consumption, cutting down bottled water is a good lace to start. But for the heart of the problem,we have to stop producing and using so many plastics.

(1)What makes it difficult to know microplastics commonly exist in the human body?

    A.The quality of microplastics.
    B.The quantity of microplastics.
    C.The size of microplastics.
    D.The shape of microplastics.
(2)How did Kieran Cox's team calculate the potential consumption of microplastics?

    A.By analyzing existing data.
    B.By comparing the impact.
    C.By studying papers.
    D.By conducting experiments.
(3)What can we know according to the text?

A.the study is among the earliest ones to investigate human exposure to microplastics.
B.Drinking less plastic bottle water helps to take in fewer microplastics.
C.Cox's team gained comprehensive information of microplastics taken in by humans.
D.People consume 74,000 to 121,000 particles of microplastics per year from foods and drinks.
(4)What is the best title for the text?

    A.The Potential Problems of Microplastics.
    B.Microplastics Found Within Human Bodies.
    C.Microplastics Coming From Various Sources.
D.The Impact of Microplastics on Human Health.

  • 14.In the late 1960s,the anthropologist (人類學(xué)家) Edmund Carpenter arrived in New Cuinea armed with mirrors, videos and Polaroid cameras, and a mission:to disrupt (擾亂) the minds of members of the Biami tribe, who had never seen full reflections or images of themselves. "After their first astonished response---covering their mouths and ducking their heads---they stood frozen, staring at their images." Carpenter's devices disturb that inner image, causing discomfort. But not for long.Within days, the villagers groomed (打扮) themselves openly before mirrors and began taking Polaroid shots of each other.
It's unclear if the People of Biami were really as unfamiliar with mirrors as Carpenter thought. But in any case, what's striking isn't how strange their reaction seems, but how related.Do you know how it feels when you make a pleasant remark in a lift, but nobody responds?Or when two people greeting each other misjudge whether to go for a handshake,a hug or a social kiss? That's the same awkwardness: "self-consciousness tinged with uncertainty",as Dahl defines it.Suddenly,I see I'm viewed not as a friendly conversationalist, but as a strange person who talks in the lift.
As awkwardness feels unpleasant,it's natural to want to overcome it.Dahl's initial motivation for writing her book Cringeworthy:A Theory of Awkwardness, was to get over her own awkwardness. But after a journey through various awkward experiences, she makes a persuasive case for celebrating it.We live in an era with more opportunities than ever to do so.But awkwardness breaks that false appearance, exposing the imperfect life behind it.It creates a strange kind of social bond---how much in common we have when seeing that behind the disguise (偽裝) ---we're all just trying our best to seem perfect.
The awkward you, then, are the real you,the one without the defensive performance.Dahl even indicates that taking a friendlier attitude toward awkwardness might help us make the connections with people holding different ideas.

(1)How did the people of Biami feel when they first saw themselves in the mirror?

    A.Shocked at their reflections.
    B.Satisfied with their images.
    C.Curious about their look.
    D.Ashamed of their appearance.
(2)Which of the following awkwardness is "self-consciousness tinged with uncertainty"?

A.You slip over just to the face of your girl in dream.
B.You are caught cheating but get nothing in an exam.
C.You are found standing in pubic with your trousers zip open.
D.You're refused when offering your seat to a seemingly pregnant woman.
(3)What causes you to feel embarrassed from time to time?

    A.Not knowing anything novel.
    B.Seeking perfection.
    C.Avoiding pressure from others.
D.Lacking courage to face some problems.
(4)What can be inferred to solve our awkwardness?

A.Treat others in a friendly way.
    B.Connect with your friends regularly.
C.Express yourself honestly with no defensive cover.
D.Get ready to guard against any threat from others.
