  • 3.Much information can be clearly conveyed, purely through our eyes,so the expression "eyes also talk" is often heard.
Can you think of any experience that further proves this?On a bus you may quickly glance at a stranger, but not make eye contact. If he senses that he is being stared at,he may feel uncomfortable.
It is the same in daily ljye.aie.If you are looked at for more than necessary, you will look at yourself up and down to see if there is anything wrong with you.If nothing goes wrong, you will feel angry about other's staring at you that way.Eyes do speak, right?
Looking too long at someone may seem to be rude and aggressive. But things are different when it comes to staring at the opposite sex.If a man continues to glance at a woman for more than 10 seconds, his intentions are obvious. That is,he wishes to make her understand that he is admiring her.
However, the normal eye contact for two people engaged in conversation is that the speaker will only look at the listener from time to time,In order to make sure that the listener does pay attention to what the former is speaking. As for the listener,he will,to a certain degree, look continuously at the speaker to tell him that he is attentive.
If a speaker looks at you continuously when speaking,as if he tries to control you,you will feel uneasy.A poor liar usually exposes himself by looking too long at the victim, since he believes the false idea that to look straight in the eye is a sign of honest communication.
In fact, continuous eye contact is limited to lovers only, who will enjoy looking at each other tenderly for a long time,to show affection that words cannot express.
Clearly, eye contact should be done according to the relationship between two people and specific situation.

(1)What may person usually do on a bus?

A.Stare at a stranger for more than necessary.
B.Use eyes to talk to a stranger politely.
C.Talk to a stranger politely after a quick glance.
D.Glance at a stranger without eye contact.
(2)What does it mean if a man looks at a woman for over 10 second?

    A.He likes her eyes.
    B.He knows her well.
    C.He admires her.
    D.He makes contact with her.
(3)Why is a poor liar easy to be seen through?

A.He looks straight at the victim for too long a time.
B.He feels uneasy about others' eye contact.
C.He wants to control the victim.
D.He thinks that he is honest.
(4)What's the main idea of the text?

    A.Eye contact matters.
    B.Eyes can speak.
    C.Don't stare at others.
    D.Use your eye contact.

  • 4.During the ongoing battle against the Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia (NCP)(新型冠狀肺炎),you may have read news that garlic can quickly kill the virus but it proved to be misinformation. While the nation continues to fight against the NCP,it's also stepping up efforts to fight the spread of misinformation.
In the Internet era,the nature of how information spreads has changed largely.Information and misinformation can spread to thousands of people in seconds.
For most people,fact-checking is an afterthought - if it is a thought at all. Therefore, misinformation spreads, said The Washington Post.People simply prefer passing on information that will lead to an emotional response(反應(yīng)) from readers.Whether or not it is factual is not always important.
Misinformation could be a greater danger than the virus itself.Misinformation is "making the work of our heroic workers even harder",World Health Organization(WHO) Director-General Tedros told China Daily. He said misinformation "causes confusion and spreads fear".
During the fight against the NCP,Ghebreyesus said that "at the WHO we're not just fighting against the virus,we're also battling conspiracy(陰謀) theories that undermine our response. "
It is true that as China races to contain the NCP and minimize(減少到最低限度) its spread across countries, fears and rumors(謠言) surrounding the virus are creating their own problems on social media. "Ironically(諷刺地),speed is important on those things," US professor Gabriel Kahn told The Los Angeles Times. "But…those are the ones you have to be most certain about verifying (驗(yàn)證) before you share."
As ordinary people,we may not be able to devote ourselves like those medical staff. But we could think twice about what we read.If you can be careful about sharing information,it's your contribution to the fight against the outbreak.

(1)According to the article, what is the main cause of the spread of misinformation?

    A.The lack of fact-checking.
    B.An increase in viruses.
    C.People's desire to trick others.
D.Changes in the way people view information.
(2)What does the underlined word "undermine" in Para.5 probably mean?

    A.Test.
    B.Harm.
    C.Guide.
    D.Explain.
(3)What problem has been found during the battle against the NCP?

A.People have fears caused by misinformation.
B.It is hard to deal with misinformation across countries.
C.Rumors about the virus travel too fast to be controlled.
D.Social media creates problems for people to verify misinformation.
(4)What is the author's purpose in writing the article?

A.To share tips on how to fight against misinformation.
B.To introduce some misinformation about the NCP.
C.To call on people to watch out for misinformation.
D.To tell people what China has done to deal with misinformation.
