3.There is an old saying about volunteer work that goes like this: "No one can do everything, but everyone can do something."
Today, many people volunteer their time and energy to help others. There are a lot of ways to meet other people's needs. For example, some volunteers provide help after an unexpected event.Others are happy to get dirty while repairing homes or planting trees or flowers in poor neighborhoods,Young people see pain and loneliness around them and find ways to help. And history lovers help archeologists(考古學家) search for ancient objects to help deepen the past knowledge.

4.The smiles have become a holiday tradition here. Thanks to Barb O'Neill,a caring woman, and thanks to her son,Rodney O'Neil,he always says"What can I do for you?" when he sees someone in need. And thanks to all the 600 volunteers who spread some holiday cheer around the country.
Because of them, more than 4,200 people will get a free meal this year at a church. The meals are served at Thanksgiving,Christmas, and Easter, which is a tradition that has lasted for more than 40 years.
The group's Thanksgiving gathering this year will be held on November 23rd at First United Methodist Church, where about 2,000 people are expected to come for a meal without paying for it."I love it," Mr.O'Neill says. "It will be very successful because of all the people who might take part in the activity."
It all started in the early 1970s,when O'Neill's mother began inviting people over to her home for Thanksgiving when she learned some of them didn't have much to eat.Years later,60 people were coming to her house for the holiday dinner. In the end,she moved the dinners to local churches, where gatherings grew more.
In addition to the meals, the organization provides clothes, toys, and other gifts. In spring,it hands out about 500 Easter baskets, which include books as well as toothpaste (牙膏) donated by local dentists. On Christmas, volunteers visit homes to give gifts to children. "It' s amazing," says Shelly Willis who has ever been helped by the organization."They always bring us warmth and joy."
O'Neill began helping with these meals when he was six years old.Over the years,it became clear that Mrs.O'Neill was encouraging her son to be her successor(繼承者) who continued to pass on her love.
