2.My wife Karen is good at gardening. No matter what she plants,it always seems to grow well. She once put a dead stick into the ground and turned it into a mango tree.Like dogs and cats that seem to naturally recognize a pet-friendly human, plants know my wife. She loves them and they reward her with fruits, vegetables and flowers.
Being a career military (軍人)family,we've lived in many different places over the years. But no matter where we were stationed, one thing always remained the same:Karen's gardens. In addition to the delicious fruits and vegetables, home gardens provide so much more.Flowering plants and their multi-colored flowers are lovely.Green is pleasing to the eye.Plants make us happy.
In days past, bees moved around in groups all over our yard.We admired them and they took no notice of us.Even the dogs learned to leave them alone. The bees came for the flowers.
At some point, the bees just stopped coming to visit.Where we used to entertain dozens at a time,we're lucky now if we get one or two. When I walk the dogs, the bees I used to see buzzing all over the neighborhood are now lying on the sidewalk, either still or moving around in a circle.I'm no beekeeper, but I'm pretty sure something is happening to the bees.
By chance, the three speakers at the Poway City Council meeting happened to be local beekeepers. All three expressed serious concern over the continued use of herbicides (除草劑)and insecticides(殺蟲劑).Once considered harmless, both chemicals have since proven to be deadly for bees.
They call it Colony Collapse Disorder(蜂群崩潰綜合征)and it is not a problem just for beekeepers. On the contrary, this might involve the whole human race. The reason is simple.Without bees,we lose most of the crops we rely upon for food.

3.Chinese animated film Ne Zha has broken several records in the 2019 summer. Its popularity isn't limited to the quality of the animation, but also due to the film's unique take on this mythical(神話的)figure.
This isn't the first time that Ne Zha has appeared in animated form.In 1979,the Shanghai Animation Film Studio produced Prince Ne Zha's Triumph against the Dragon Kjye.aig.In 2003,CCTV produced a 52-episode cartoon titled The Legend of Ne Zha.In both of them,Ne Zha is described as a positive and lovely child with amazing powers who always wants to help others.
When people first saw the poster for the new Ne Zha film, many wondered why the little hero from their childhood looked so frightening with black circles under his eyes and an evil smile.
Jiaozi, the director of the film, explained in an interview that they had more than 100 designs for Ne Zha.Their goal was to make sure that his appearance would serve the theme of the film, that is,fighting against prejudice (偏見)and changing one's fate (命運).
"Because we wanted to highlight the theme of the film,we couldn't design Ne Zha as a bright and positive character. "Jiaozi noted. "I also want to help the audience to think in real life.I want to make audiences change their prejudice towards this ugly Ne Zha after they walk out of theaters."

I walked into a restaurant and sat down at a table.I picked up a menu, trying to decide what to eat. "Excuse me.Is your name Roger?" asked someone, who touched me on the shoulder.I looked up and turned to the side to see a rather nice looking woman standing before me. "Yes. " I replied, looking rather confused as I had never seen the woman before.
"My name is Barbara and my husband is Tony.He is from George High School. " she said, pointing to a distant table near the door.I looked in the direction but I did not recognize the man who was sitting alone at the table, with a wheelchair (輪椅)around the corner.
"I'm really sorry.The name doesn't ring a bell. " I said.
She turned and walked back to her table. She and her husband immediately began talking and once in a while looked directly at me.
I sat there, thinking hard and tried to remember who this Tony guy was. "I must know him," I thought to myself. "He recognizes me for some reason." I picked up my coffee and took a sip.All of a sudden,it came to me like a flash lightning.
"Tony.THE BULLY(校園霸凌者).The bully of my seventh grade geography class." I said to myself.I turned around and faced in his direction.
How many times that guy had made fun of my big ears in front of girls? How many times he called me "four-eyed toad"?How many times he pushed me up against the lockers just to make himself look like a big man to all the other students?
He raised his hand and waved at me.I smiled, returned the wave and turned back and began to eat my breakfast.
"Goodness. He's so thin now.Not the big guy that I remembered," I thought to myself.
All of a sudden I heard the sound of dishes breaking so I turned around to see what had happened.
"Could you help me get into the wheelchair?" asked Tony.組卷:4引用:1難度:0.6
