43.Have you noticed that "You're welcome" has largely been taken the place of two new words-- "No problem"?
Here is an example:
Shop keeper: "Here's your change,ma'ma."
Me: "Thank you."
Shop keeper: "No problem."
But to me,it is a problem.I want to be thanked for going to a shop.I don't mind this automatic(機(jī)械的)reply. "You are welcome" means "You are welcome to shop here;thanks for letting us help you." When I hear "No problem",what I think is: "You're not helping me.I'll go somewhere else next time."
There are other more annoying(惱人的)phrases,of course. But this one especially seems to just push people to one side.It seems to say,"I've taken care of you,so now leave me alone."It seems to say that you are actually not "welcome".
It's part of a whole, lazy culture.People don't notice each other.People can't be bothered(打擾).People sit close together in a coffee shop. But they don't talk. They just look at their smartphones. If you ask one of these people to move their chair a little so you can sit down, they reply,"No problem."I don't feel that means "You're welcome to join the table."I feel it means "No problem that you only bothered me a bit."
Lots of people think this phrase is mainly used by younger people, much like "whatever".But actually,"no problem" crosses generations(幾代人).It's taken hold in a way that fits almost every group of people. There is "no problem" wherever you go.
Next time you're about to say those two words, stop for a minute.Make eye contact(接觸),and say with a smile,"You're welcome."
Be a bit more polite? No problem.A(1) The present situation of it ? Now,most people in different age groups always use it(2) The reason for using it ? People become lazy and(3)
The writer's opinions and advice on it? She gets an(4)
? She thinks the meaning(5)? She suggests people thinking twice before speaking the two words out. 組卷:5引用:2難度:0.3
