3.I was born and raised in Hawaii, where I learned to enjoy and respect the difference of cultures as a member of its very successful Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. Most of my classmates stayed in Hawaii for a college or went to schools on the West Coast, but I decided to broaden my horizons by attending Purdue University in Indiana. When I was there,I discovered I was a minority (少數(shù)派)—something I had never experienced back home.
Being a minority for the first time,I felt I was a person who knew nothing about what they often talked about. My ideas, interests and values were often thought to be not important. After sharing a different point of view,I would often hear: "What do you know? You're from Hawaii." These answers finally stopped me from telling where I was from.
That summer I went home to work for a political organization in Honolulu, where I discovered a love for working on laws.Slowly,my pride in my culture came back.
I returned to Purdue with a newfound love for my background.I decided to try my best to share my culture with everyone I could and, after I did,I found people were more willing to hear my ideas.I changed my major (專業(yè)) to political science and decided I wanted to be a civil servant (公務(wù)員).
I'm still young and have much to learn, but I will always remain proud of my culture. It has helped me form who I am today and helped me have.a better understanding of the world.I've also learned to be more patient and more open.I will make sure to provide a safe space for people to express their ideas and backgrounds without fear of being left out.

4.Each year on Feb 21,UNESCO (聯(lián)合國教科文組織) holds an International Mother Language Day (IMLD).The event is to help people to pay attention to the disappearance of the world's languages and try to encourage people to learn and use them.
What happens when a language dies out?Something great is lost — not just sounds and marks but the way that people understand the world and communicate with each other. We keep different cultures and traditions through languages.Kill a language and all these are killed too.
Through IMLD,more and more people come to realize the terrible situation and try to stop it.
Google's 2018 Endangered Languages Project is a good example. In order to avoid losing them, many speakers and protectors of endangered languages upload (上傳) texts, audios and videos to the project website. They want to introduce the way that people communicate and express themselves around the world. The Myaamia Project is the same kind of way to revive the language spoken by the Miami tribes (部落) of the United States.Project members work to encourage people to study and communicate with this language, which died out in the 1960s.These activities give life to those endangered languages.People who work to keep languages alive are not limited to the past. Many young people design apps and use social media to support their activities. They "spread the word" to save the world.
So,although the problem of disappearing languages remains a very serious one, there is hope.We all have a special feeling of our mother language. This is why we should remember the wise words of late president of South Africa,Nelson Mandela, "If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head.If you talk to a man in his own language, that goes to his heart."
