  • 1.Sunstroke(中暑)is a condition that can quickly go from dangerous to deadly, especially if proper care isn't given immediately.
Sunstroke, sometimes called heatstroke,is a result of the body temperature rising above the safe limit. This causes the body's necessary functions to stop working.
It's usually pretty easy to avoid sunstroke,as long as proper action is taken. In that case, you need to act as quickly as possible to return that person's body to a safe temperature. Here are a few tips to help treat sunstroke.
       Call for help
Call to get an ambulance as quickly as possible. This should be the first thing you do,especially if the sunstroke person has fainted(昏倒).Also, call for help from anyone nearby if you're in a public place. If there's no one around, call someone nearby if they can get there sooner than an ambulance.Ask everyone to bring you as much water as possible,if there isn't much nearby.
Get the person to a cooler area
If there's a building nearby, aim for that.Anywhere with plenty of air conditioners and water is perfect. If a building isn't available, bring the person to a well-shaded area.
       Get the water flowing
If the person is still conscious, get him or her to drink water. If there's a bathtub available, fill it with cool water and put the person in it.
If your water supply is limited, you have to save it.Dampen a towel or shirt and put it on the person's body.Focus on the face, neck, and chest.
       Fan the person
Getting moving air over the person cools him or her down.Use anything,a towel or sheet,a shirt, your hands,or a piece of board. This is where having many people around really helps,as they can combine to fan the entire body

(1)Which of the following is NOT mentioned in the text?

  • 2.To say that Spanish painter Pablo Picasso was a leader in Western art in the 20th century is to repeat an accepted fact, according to Time magazine. "No painter before him had enjoyed such a large following in his own lifetime."
This year marks the 140th anniversary of Picasso's birth.Born on Oct.25,1881,Picasso had created more than 20,000 paintings, drawings, sculptures and other pieces of art by the time he died at 91.
That's a long time to paint! The result is not only a lot of art,but a lot of different phases in Picasso's work.On its website,Christie's auction(拍賣(mài))house lists eight different periods in the course of his painting career.
Over a century ago,the painter once said that,"Every act of creation is first of all an act of destruction." So the eight periods are all very different in their choice of subjects and yet unmistakably drawn by Picasso's hands.Financial Express called his style unusual.
As his style changed over time,it became more simplistic.A common joke is that Picasso forgot how to paint. After all,he was classically trained at the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona.
Now he is best known for leading an artistic movement known as "Cubism(立體派)".It used geometric shapes to create human and animal figures. With this method,Picasso tried to show his figures from multiple perspectives(視角)in two-dimensional space. For example,a person's left eye may be shown from straight ahead while his right eye and nose are shown from the side. The result is strange and beautiful, frightening and funny.
Picasso often said that he admired primitive art and drawings made by youngsters. "When I was the age I could draw like Raphael, but it took me a lifetime to learn to draw like them," he said.Maybe that's why Picasso is still so popular. We look at his work and think,"Maybe I could do that!"

    A.Productive.
    B.Optimistic.
    C.Traditional.

A.His act of creation was destructive.
B.He created a series of simple images.
    C.His painting style remained unchanged.

A.It is rather difficult to understand.

  • 3.I picked up my two best friends and we were off on a road trip.I had just returned to America from a year abroad in China. So,naturally I wanted to take a trip to Canada.
Montreal, the second largest city in Canada,is a four-hour drive from my home in New Hampshire. We felt a thrill as we crossed the border into Canada. It was the first time I had ever driven across an international border. We turned on the radio to try and find some Canadian stations
After dropping off our bags at our hotel,we were immediately walking down the famous St.Catherine's Street. While we walked, two things surprised us:how cold it was and how well everyone dressed. The streets of Montreal are like a fashion show. Both men and women look like they stepped out of the pages of a magazine.
All of that fashion has to keep them warm since Montreal is so cold.Last year it broke the record for the most snowfall in North America. To hide from the cold we went into a small diner because we wanted to order Poutine,a very popular snack in Montreal. It is French fries covered in cheese and brown gravy(肉汁).It is delicious.
However,we had a hard time ordering the dish since the official language of Montreal is French. It is actually the fifth largest French-speaking city in the world. But since the rest of Canada speak English, plenty of people were there to help.
We spent the rest of the weekend going to many historical churches and monuments in Montreal. But at night we'd head to the very modern dance clubs and bars.Montreal is a city that sits between the past and the future and the traveller can choose whichever direction he wants to go.

(1)Which of the following can NOT be concluded from Paragraphs 3-4?

A.The author and his friends couldn't wait to explore the city.
B.The author wasn't used to the weather of Montreal.
C.The citizens from Montreal care much about what they wear.
    D.Montreal often holds fashion shows.
(2)What can we infer from the passage?

A.The author often went to China for a visit.
B.The people they met in the diner were kind and helpful.
C.All the people in the diner were locals.
D.The author went to Montreal on business.
(3)Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

A.The author listened to Canadian radio programmes and chose their first stop as advised.
B.The author took a trip to Montreal-the third largest city in Canada.
C.Montreal broke the record for the most snowfall in the world last year.
D.Montreal is a city which is both traditional and modern.
(4)How do you understand the underlined sentence in Paragraph 3?

第二節(jié)讀后續(xù)寫(xiě)(滿分25分)

  • 9.A funny thing happened to Arthur when he was on the way to work one day. As he walked along Park Avenue near the First National Bank, he heard the sound of someone trying to start a car. He tried again and again but couldn't get the car moving. Arthur turned and looked inside at the face of a young man who looked worried. Arthur stopped and asked, "It looks like you've got a problem," Arthur said.
"I'm afraid so. I'm in a big hurry and I can't start my car."
"Is there something I can do to help?" Arthur asked. The young man looked at the two suitcases in the back seat and then said,
"Thanks. If you're sure it wouldn't be too much trouble, you could help me get these suitcases into a taxi."
"No trouble at all. I'd be glad to help."
The young man got out and took one of the suitcases from the back seat. After placing it on the ground, he turned to get the other one. Just as Arthur picked up the first suitcase and started walking, he heard the loud noise of an alarm.
It was from the bank. There had been a robbery!
Park Avenue had been quiet a moment before. Now the air was filled with the sound of the alarm and the shouts of people running from all directions. Cars stopped and the passengers joined the crowd in front of the bank. People asked each other, "What happened?"But everyone had a different answer.
Arthur, still carrying the suitcase, turned to look at the bank and walked right into the young woman in front of him.
She looked at the suitcase and then at him. Arthur was surprised. "Why is she looking at me like that?" He thought."The suitcase! She thinks I'm the bank thief!"
Arthur looked around at the crowd of people. He became frightened, and without another thought, he started to run.
