  • 3.Teens don't make important choices on their own.Whether they know it or not, many of their decisions -- including how they look at themselves--are influenced (影響) by most of people and things, including family, friends, and the media.
Parents say that kids never listen, but this is far from true. From a young age, children pick up signals (信號) from relatives about weight, appearance. They see how adults view their own bodies and hear all kinds of words they say about others. As a result, kids often make decisions about diet and appearance based on the qualities
    which their own parents value.
Peers(同齡人) are another powerful reason that influences teen's decisions,40%-60% of teenage girls care about whether they are overweight or not.The everyday choices they make about food and exercise are related to how their friends think and act.Even if peer pressure is not spoken aloud, teens are influenced just by looking at the people around them.
Another major influence on teens is the media, including TV,movies, magazines, music, and blogs. The average teen spends 30 hours on different medias a week. After spending 1,560 hours a year watching the super-beautiful celebrities on TV or Internet, many teens are not satisfied with their own shape.More than 90% of girls aged 15-17 want to change at least one part of their appearance--usually their weight.
The thought of so many outside things influences on teens can be terrible--but it doesn't have to be.Instead of accepting what the media has to say about beauty and self-worth,consider the qualities you value.Have discussions with friends and family about how their attitudes (態(tài)度) affect your decisions. Most of all,use your own influence to encourage others to make healthy choices.

(1)How do children pick up signals from relatives?

    A.By avoiding listening to them.
    B.By learning good qualities.
C.By watching what they do and say.
D.By asking them to make decisions.
(2)What's the main idea of Paragraph 3?

A.People around teenagers have an influence on teens.
B.Teens don't make important choices on their own.
C.Teens get information from TVs and magazines.
D.Lots of teenage girls care about whether they are overweight or not.
(3)What does the underlined word celebrities mean?

    A.Excellent students.
    B.Great women.
    C.Famous people.
    D.Common people.
(4)What is the correct order of the subtitles (小標題) from Paragraph 2 to Paragraph 5?

①Consider and use our own influence
    ②Influence of parents
    ③Influence of media
    ④Influence of other teenagers
    A. ③①②④
    B. ③④①②
    C. ②④①③
    D. ②④③①

  • 4.You probably already know that exercise can help you lose weight and stay fit. However,it has a lot of other good effects (影響),too. Are you healthy and fit?Even if you are, there are several reasons that you should exercise.
First, exercise can give you energy. When you are tired during the day and you can't study or work, don't take a nap (小睡).Take a walk or go for a run instead.Researchers looked at 70 different studies about exercise and tiredness. In the studies, people who didn't exercise started to exercise regularly. As a result, they felt less tired. They didn't feel tired during the day.Over 90 percent of the studies showed the same results:regular exercise increased energy and reduced tiredness.
Second, exercise can help you sleep better. It's important to get enough sleep.Lack (缺少) of sleep is one of the main causes of stress.Exercising raises your body temperature.Your temperature goes back to normal about five to six hours after you exercise. You become sleepy at this point because the drop in temperature tells your body that it's time to sleep.
Also, exercise can reduce stress and anxiety.Do you ever feel nervous or stressed?Working out for 20 minutes can make you feel calm. How?When you exercise, you have to focus on your body,so you can't think about your stressful thoughts. In addition, when you exercise, your body creates a special chemical. This chemical can help your brain react to stress.
Finally, studies show that exercise is good for your brain, especially your memory.Exercising makes your body create new cells in a part of the brain called the hippocampus (海馬體).Memory and learning happen in the hippocampus.Because of this increase in cells, exercising can improve your memory and make it easier to learn new things.
Regular exercise can improve your life in so many ways.It can make you feel better, look better, and do more.So why are you sitting there reading?Go out and exercise!
