Say a Warm Farewell with a Willow BranchIn ancient China，willow branches（柳樹(shù)枝） were often used as a parting gift between friends and family members.Do you know why willow branches are a symbol of farewell（告別）？
One reason is that willow trees are strong.They can survive（生存） in any soil，wet or dry，north or south.Because of this unique feature，giving a willow branch is a way to say goodbye to loved ones.And it tells them you hope they will easily adapt to their new living environment.
Meanwhile，in Chinese，the pronunciation for the willow tree "liu（柳）" is similar to the character "liu（留）"，which means asking someone to stay.So offering a willow branch is like asking the other party（對(duì)方） to stay，even though we know that they must leave.
