VII.Reading Expression (共 5?題,每題 2分,共 10 分)

  • 25.Humans share Earth with many different kinds of wildlife. However, many of them may not be around for much longer.According to the report on biodiversity (生物多樣性) released by the United Nations in May 2019,one million of Earth's eight million wildlife may die out, including mammals (哺乳動物),birds, insects and rare plants.
Humans are the main reason for this, according to the report. The world's population has increased from 3.7 to 7.6 billion in the last 50 years.Humans use more than 33 percent of the world's land and 75 percent of freshwater to grow crops and keep livestock (牲畜).As a result, there are fewer living areas and resources for animals.
Humans' action has also caused the climate change which is a big challenge to the world's coral reefs(珊瑚).If the world warms up by another 0.5℃,coral reefs will be reduced in size by 70 to 90 percent, the report said.
This has caused scientists to believe that there could be a sixth mass extinction (?滅絕),the first to be caused by humans, according to the Guardian. There have been five mass extinctions before, the last being 65 million years ago. That was when dinosaurs died out.
To deal with this problem, many countries have taken action. For example,China stopped ivory trading (象?交易) in 2016,China Daily reported.According to Huff Post, there are things that we can do personally. For example,we can use less water and remember not to buy products that come from animals.

Use words with proper meanings and grammatical rules to fill in the blanks.
(1)According to the report released by the United Nations in May 2019,
of the wildlife on the earth may die out.
(2)Most of the world's land and freshwater
by humans,so animals have fewer living areas and resources.
    (3)Human's action has also
to the climate change which is a big challenge to the world's coral reefs. The size of them will become much
    if the world warms up.
    (4)Dinosaurs died out
million years ago,and scientists believe it is
that there would be another mass extinction according to the Guardian.
(5)The passage is written to ask humans to
the wildlife. And many countries have taken action. For example, ivory trading isn't in China.
