2.2012 was one of the hardest years I have ever known because I lost my husband. For several months,I found it hard to write, think, eat or take pleasure in anything;I could not imagine what it would be like to feel happy again;I could not find any hope or purpose.
I cannot remember the reason why one Monday morning I decided to go to a hot yoga(瑜伽)studio in east London, where I signed up for a 30-day trial.I do not remember the class or how much I sweated. What I do know is that I started going to hot yoga every day.Sometimes, when my head felt as if it might break me down,I went twice a day.I skipped parties, left social events and got up early to attend. There was something about the hot room that held me together, stopping all the dark thoughts inside my mind.
I chose the Bikram method of hot yoga:It has a set of 26 postures and two breathing exercises performed in heat over a period of 90 minutes. This form of yoga was founded by Bikram Choudhury. In 2015,he failed in an attempt to copyright his method. Many practitioners (從業(yè)人員) believe that Bikram is not real yoga. Some question the limitations of just 26 postures (姿勢(shì)).Others wonder why the class has to be performed before a wall of mirrors. However, something in those 26 postures freed my mind, dragged me out of my thoughts and back into the present.I was able to focus on how my body behaved differently each day.

(3)How did yoga help the author?
A.It helped her make money.
B.It helped her feel more focused.
C.It helped her get to know its founder.
D.It helped her practice her performance skills.
(4)Where is this text most likely from?
A.Science fiction.
B.A travel brochure.
C.A research paper.
D.A health magazine.組卷:1引用:1難度:0.5 -
3.The largest sculpture in the world was built to honor the Native American Indians. The sculpture's subject was a Lakota Sioux Indian hero named Crazy Horse.Located in South Dakota's Black Hills, not far away from Mount Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Monument(紀(jì)念碑) is a work in progress, first started in 1948.
Crazy Horse had a vision and was devoted to preserving the culture and traditions of his people. He died young,at the hands of an American soldier.Because of his modesty and great courage, his spirit lives on through the land and the many stories handed down through generations of the Lakota Sioux Indians.
Lakota Chief,Standing Bear, and sculptor,Korczak Ziolkowski, started the ball rolling in 1946 by choosing Thunderhead Mountain as the place to create the Crazy Horse Monument.By 1948,the first explosives were detonated (引爆) to start sculpting the rock face,Much like the construction of Mount Rushmore, the monument is being created in a special explosive engineering process.
Even though the sculptor died in the1980s,the work on the Crazy Horse Monument continues and lives on through his family.Funded through only private donations and paid tours, the sculpting process is slow but steady. There is also a museum and cultural arts center connected with the monument and open to the public. While the work may take many more years, the devotion to completing the Crazy Horse Monument serves to honor the life of this great fighter and his Native American people, both past and present.

It was 1954 when a young traveler named Robert Beach was hitching rides (搭便車) on his way from Tampa,F(xiàn)L to Los Angeles,CA.His rides broke down at one chilly night in Deming,NM.Beach was 24 when he was dropped off in Deming.Beach was tired, hungry, and cold. With no money in his pocket,he wondered where he might spend the night.
Police officers approached Beach standing downtown and he begged them to take him to jail so that he could be warm. The officers of course refused his request as he had not committed a crime.Beach found a business doorway and settled in for the night. When morning came,Beach recalled an Asian man walked out of the building and asked him how he might help and then walked to hand him a bag of cookies. These were likely the best cookies Rober had ever tasted.
Sixty-seven years later,Beach contacted the Deming-Luna Chamber of Commerce(商會(huì))and told his story about his brief stay in Deming to the new Executive Director Debbie Troyer.Beach told Troyer he phoned the chamber to say that he had never forgotten this man's kindness. After 50 years serving as a judge and entering retirement,Beach wanted to say "thanks" to this kind man and send him a﹩1,000 check.Beach told Troyer that he believed the road where this bakery stood was on Deming's main street. "What might that look like back in1954," Troyer wondered. "I'll ask our community."
