  • 1.The Terracotta Army is one of the must-visit attractions for all travellers to China. The attraction is located in Xi'an,in west China's Shaanxi Province.
    What's special?
The Terracotta Army is the buried army of Qin Shi Huang,an ancient Chinese emperor. These ancient sculptures were built and buried over two thousand years ago near the city of Xi'an.They were discovered in 1974 by farmers digging a well looking for underground water.Over eight thousand terracotta warriors and horses have been uncovered since then. Each warrior is made of clay (黏土).They are around two meters tall. The sculptures are so detailed that it is possible to guess the age, rank and personality of each one.None of the soldiers are the same.
    The best time to visit
The Terracotta Army is an indoor attraction, which is not likely to be affected by weather,so it can be visited all year round.
As the museum is one of the must-visit attractions in China,it is crowded most of the time.We advise our customers to avoid the following periods when the museum is particularly crowded:
? National Day Holiday (October 1 -7),when it is fully packed.
    ? Labour Day Holiday
Weather in winter is dry, cold and the least comfortable, and it's also the worst season for air quality, but it's also low season.
    Travel style:private,group or independent?
A private tour means a lot of flexibility (靈活性),and you will be well taken care of by a private guide and a driver. The museum is crowded most of the time, but our guides know how to escape the crowds, and help you to enjoy more in the museum.See our 3-Day Terracotta Warriors Private Tour.
Going with a group you won't get lost, but it lacks flexibility and personal service.
Travelling on your own,you may meet a lot of trouble, such as wasting time on finding a taxi or public bus to the attraction, lining up for tickets, reading maps, making sense of Chinese signs, etc.

(1)What can we know about the Terracotta Army?

A.The warriors are made of clay.
B.The warriors are of the same age.
C.It is closed on rainy days.

(2)Which is the best time to avoid crowds?

    A.Summer holidays.
    B.National Day Holiday.

  • 2.We know that many animals do not stay in one place.Birds, fish and other animals move from one place to another at a certain time. They move for different reasons:most of them move to find food more easily, but others move to get away from the places that are too crowded.
When cold weather comes, many birds move to warmer places to find food. Some fish give birth in warm water and move to cold water to feed. The most famous migration is probably the migration of the fish which is called "salmon".The fish is born in fresh water but it travels many miles to salt water. There it spends its life. When it is cold,it returns to its birthplace in fresh water. Then it gives birth and dies there. In northern Europe, there is a kind of mouse. They leave their mountain homes when they become too crowded. They move down to the low land.Sometimes they move all the way to the seaside, and many of them are killed when they fell into the sea.
Recently, scientists have studied the migration of a kind of lobster.Every year, when the season of bad weather arrives, the lobsters get into a long line and start to walk across the floor of the ocean.Nobody knows why they do this, and nobody knows where they go.

  • 3.When her classmates were having a good time,Molly sat at the picnic table alone. She remained embarrassed around her classmates. She seemed unsure of what to do or say,yet I could see her eyes longing for acceptance. Many students had already decided that her friendship would not be worth(值)the energy required to overcome the embarrassment.Others laughed at her. Most ignored her—except for one.
Brianna was making the other students laugh,as usual. "Brianna,do you see Molly down there?Would you mind walking down there and inviting her to come up here with the rest of us?I said.
Brianna sighed.I could tell she didn't want to waste her precious time to do what I was asking of her,but I also knew her heart. She often thought of others before herself—a rare character for anyone, much less a kid.
Knowing this choice was hard for her,I pulled out a D-buck,our class currency(貨幣).Though this was not the ideal way to deal with this situation.I needed her cooperation(合作). "Here,I'll pay you for your time." I said to her.She offered an insincere smile, grasped the green paper, and headed down the hill.
As the rest of the children screamed and laughed,my eyes locked on Brianna as she neared the picnic table.Molly could be difficult to get along with, and I wouldn't have been surprised if she sent Brianna back alone, refusing her invitation. When she encouraged herself to a standing position,I sighed with relief.
Minutes later,I felt a tap on my shoulder. "Here.Mrs.D." Brianna handed me the D-buck. "Why?" I asked. "I shouldn't keep this." Her eyes fell to her feet, guilt showing from her quiet voice. "I don't want Molly to think I only went to get her so I could earn the money. She's my friend."
