  • 24.Many people love eating sweet food such as chocolate and candy.The Swedes (瑞典人) are no different.
       But for most Swedish people,especially kids,they only eat sweets on Saturdays.It is a tradition called L?rdagsgodis.In Swedish,L?rdags means "Saturday" and godis means "candy".
       How did the tradition come into being?In 1942,the Swedish government found that most people in the country had problems with their teeth.The government tried to find out reasons of the problems.Soon they found people in the country loved sweet food so much and ate a lot of sweet food every day.As a result,many of them had trouble with their teeth.
       To help people have healthy teeth,the government made a rule only eat sweets on Saturdays.The government believed that eating a lot of sweets on one day of the week is healthier than eating sweets the whole week.And the government also asked people to eat fewer sweets than before.Then the tradition of L?rdagsgodis began.
       To help protect the teeth,the Swedes followed the tradition.They ate fewer sweets.And brushing teeth twice a day became a must-do for people in Sweden.
