  • 1301.Everyone is born with the ability to learn. There are normally two types of learning in our daily life and study - active learning and passive(被動的)learning. (1)
This will help you develop a habit of active learning gradually.
       (2)
I bet that no one sits down to read with the purpose of not getting the contents. But I'm sure that some of you have been in a situation, probably more than once, where you read an assignment, closed the book and thought "what the world was about".(3)
Active readers,on the other hand, set goals and check their understanding as they read. When they finish, they can explain the main points and know that they've seen what they have read.
Active learners think about information deeply and critically.Being thoughtful is an important part of active learning, because it means that you are analyzing and absorbing the information.(4)
For instance, you may make connections between the new information and what you already know, identify concepts that you may not understand very well,or evaluate the importance of what you are reading. An active learner considers constantly in this way.In contrast, passive learners may read the text and listen to lectures and even understand most of what is read and heard.(5)

All in all, behavior of an active learner and a passive one varies greatly.Equipping yourself with study strategies(策略)of active learners may eventually help you become one of them.

A.Passive learners won't be strict with themselves.
B.You need to know some differences between them.
C.In other words, you are processing what you read.
D.However, that important step of reflecting on it is not taken.
E.Active learners accept much of the responsibility for learning.
F.When interacting with the text in this way,you are doing passively.
G.Active learners study with the purpose of grasping and memorizing information.

  • 1303.A walk through the galleries of Quebec's Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) places individuals face-to-face with some 43,000 artworks ranging from Chinese ceramics (陶瓷制品) to Inuit sculpture.
While the visiting is an incredible cultural experience,a group of local physicians will soon be able to prescribe(開處方) museum visits as treatment for some illnesses.
Helene Boyer, vice president of a Montreal-based medical association, explains that museum visits have been shown to increase levels of serotonin,a neurotransmitter (神經(jīng)傳導物質) known as the "happy chemical" which helps to lift mood.
According to Boyer, the small increase in hormones (荷爾蒙) associated with enjoying an afternoon of art is similar to that offered by exercise, making museum prescriptions ideal for the elderly experiencing pain that prevents them from regularly joining in physical activity.
The museum visits are designed to improve traditional methods. As Bondil notes, spending time in a peaceful environment can provide a welcome distraction. "What is most important is this experience can help them escape from their own pain," she says. "When you enter the museum, you escape from the speed of our daily life."
"I am convinced that in the 21st century, culture will be what physical activity was for health in the 20th century," said Bondil. "Some people would do well to recall that just in the 19th century, sports were believed to do harm to the body.Just as doctors now prescribe exercise, they will be able to prescribe a visit to the MMFA."

(1)What does Hélène Boyer think of museum visits?

    A.They can cheer people up.
    B.They can reduce physical activity.
C.They can slow down our life pace.
D.They can increase levels of art appreciation.
(2)How do museum visits affect people?

    A.Stop them concentrating on pain.
B.Stop them focusing on traditional methods.
C.Encourage them not to be absent-minded.
D.Encourage them to slow their steps while walking.
(3)What does the last paragraph suggest?

A.Physical activities were popular in the 19th century.
B.Sports are considered to be harmful to the body.
C.Ideas of treating illnesses are changing over time.
D.Doctors prescribe museum visits regularly now.
(4)What is the main idea of the text?

A.Museum visits are ideal for the elderly.
B.Happy chemical helps to lift mood.
    C.Peaceful environment helps escape pain.
    D.Cultural activities will promote health.

  • 1307.閱讀下面短文,根據(jù)其內容寫一篇 60詞左右的內容概要。
A Helping Hand When a disaster occurs, humanity often loses interest in the event after the devastation is over.An accident occurs and more people care about the number of lives lost compared to the help offered.Last summer,my mom taught me the importance of this in everyday life when she helped a person in need.
I remember climbing into the car full of hot summer air and wondering why Mrs Edelman,my friend's mom,was sitting in the front seat.My mom and Mrs Edelman weren't close friends, just friendly,so I was surprised to see her.My mom told me Mrs Edelman had gotten into a car crash and needed a ride home, accompanied by a look that said don't ask.My mind was picturing a million scenes on the drive to Mrs Edelman's from the Bat Mitzvah I had just attended.
After we dropped her off,my mom let out a sigh of relief and began to tell the story. She spoke of the busy street corner outside of the temple where she had seen Mrs Edelman standing obviously upset. She had totaled her brand new minivan because she was distracted and ran through a red light.Mrs Edelman was teeming with anxiety and despair;her fragile body shook like a leaf even though it was a hot summer day.
"I got out of my car and walked up to her," my mom said."I helped her explain to the police what had happened and assisted her in contacting her insurance." My mom was a kind person so I wasn't surprised."After the car had been towed,I took her to get some coffee and calm down. The cozy cafe and the aroma of freshly baked scones smoothed her."
Mrs Edelman said she was in a predicament. Her husband was out of town and she needed to pick up her daughter and get a ride home. After my mom offered to give her a ride, she bombarded my mom with a million thank-yous and was quite relieved.
The car pulled into the driveway just as my mom finished the story.I thought about how grateful I'd be if someone stopped to help me in a similar situation. The lesson I learned had become an important theme in my life:to always be kind and offer a helping hand.
