Is it ever OK to lie to a child? My 10-year-old son plays football. He's not very good, but he loves it.Yesterday he didn't play well. When he finished the game,he asked, "Did I play well?" I said, "Yes!You're a great football player!" Did I do the right thing? |

Yes,you did the right thing.White lies are an important part of life.Sometimes you have to tell lies that do no harm.Your purpose was to make him feel good. |

I don't think there is ever a good reason to lie to our children.Children learn to be honest from the examples they see.As parents,we should be honest in order to teach our children to be honest.Every lie requires five more lies.If you keep hiding truth from them, they will not trust you. They will not respect you. |

You lied to make your son feel better, but you missed a good chance of teaching him a life lesson.People should work hard for what they want.Maybe next time you can say,"No,you didn't play well today.Great football players practise a lot.Let's go and practise." The truth will make him strong and a good football player. |

Parents should be honest to their children, but they don't have to tell the whole truth.Next time when your son asks,"Did I play well?"You can say,"What do you think?"Then your son can tell you what he thinks. That way, everything you say is true, and you avoid truth that hurts. |

2.Dear Laura,
Thanks for your message.Yes,I'm having a great time on my student exchange program in France.I was a bit nervous before I arrived here, but there was no reason to be.My host family is really nice. They go out of their way to make me feel at home. The grandmother knows that I miss Chinese food a lot.So she actually learned how to make Chinese food! She also has a teenage granddaughter about my age who is really kind. She always talks to me in French to help me practice. You wouldn't believe how quickly my French has improved because of that.I'm very comfortable speaking French now.Although I still make lots of mistakes,it doesn't worry me as it used to.
My biggest challenge is learning how to behave at the dinner table. As you can imagine, things are very different from the way they are at home. For example, you're not supposed to put your bread on your plate. You're supposed to put it on the table!I thought that was pretty strange at first, but now I'm used to it.Another example is that you're not supposed to eat anything with your hands except bread, not even fruit. You have to cut it up and eat it with a fork.Another thing is that it is impolite to say you're full.If you don't want any more food, you should just say, "That was delicious." Also, you're not supposed to put your elbows on the table.I have to say that I find it difficult to remember everything, but I'm gradually getting used to it.I don't find French customs so strange anymore.
I'll write again soon and tell you more about my life in France.Hope you're having a good school year.
Yours,
Lin Yue

3.Dear Laura,
There is a flea market(跳蚤市場) every month next to my home.I want to sell my old toys(玩具) and books to make money for new toys.Do you have any tips(提議) for a good sale?
Yu Le,11,Qingdao
Yu Le,
When I was a kid,I sold(賣) my old toys at flea markets.I even had a cola stand(攤位)!I have a few tips for you.
First, have fair(公道的) prices. Many people go to flea markets to get good deals(買得合算).So don't make your things have too high prices!
Second, put your toys and books into groups.(1)This will make it easy for people to see what you are selling.
Third, have fun!Even if you don't sell all of your things, you can make some new friends.I hope you(2)have a good time!
(1)回答問題。
①Why does Yu Le want to sell things at the flea market?
