Once，there lived a man in the state of Zheng in ancient（古代） China.He wanted to go to town to buy a new pair of shoes.Before setting off to town，he measured（測量）the size of his feet with a piece of straw（稻草）and cut it to the right length.As he left the house，the careless（粗心的）man left the straw on the table.When the man arrived in town，he went straight to the shoe shop and found a pair of shoes that he really liked.To make sure that the shoes would fit his feet，he reached into his pocket（兜） to find the straw-but found nothing.Frustrated（沮喪的），the man rushed back home to collect the straw.However，when the man returned to town，the shoe shop was closed.The man couldn't buy his shoes.The man was very upset（苦惱的）.When he told his neighbours（鄰居） they said，"But you had your feet with you!Why did you need the measurement when you could have checked the shoes with your feet？"Stubbornly（固執(zhí)） the man insisted，"I would rather（寧愿） trust（信任）the measurement than my feet."
