More Than a Ride to School
The national education association claims, "The school bus is a
mirror
of the community. "They further add that, unfortunately, what appears on the exterior(外部) does not always reflect the reality of a chosen community, they are right, and sometimes it reflects more!
Just ask Liesl Denson.Riding the school bus has been more than a ride to school for Liesl.Bruce Hardy, school bus driver for Althouse Bus Company has been Liesl's bus driver since kindergarten.Last year when Liesl's family moved to Parkesburg, knowing her bus went by her new residence, she requested to ride the same bus.
This year Liesl is a senior and will enjoy her last year riding the bus.She says, "It's been a great ride so far!My bus driver is so cool and has always been a good friend and a good listener.Sometimes when you're a child, adults do not think that what you have to say is important.Mr.Hardy always listens to what you have to say and makes you feel important. "
Her friends Ashley Batista and Amanda Wolfe agree.Bruce Hardy has been making Octorara students feel special since 1975.This year he will celebrate 30 years working for Ahhouse Bus Company.Larry Althouse, president of the company, acknowledges Bruce Hardy's outstanding record: "You do not come by employees like Bruce these days.He has never missed a day of work and has a perfect driving record, recognized in 2000 by the Pennsylvania School Bus Association for driving 350,000 accident free miles.
Hardy's reputation is made further evidence through the relationships he has made with the students that ride his bus."
Althouse further adds, "Althouse Bus Company was established 70 years ago and has been providing quality transportation ever since. My grandfather started the business with one bus.Althouse Bus Company is delighted to have the opportunity to bring distinctive and safe service to our local school and community and looks forward to continuing to provide quality service for many more years to come."
Three generations of business is not all the company has enjoyed. Thanks to drivers like Bruce Hardy, they have been building relationships through generations.Liesl's mother Carol also enjoys fond memories of riding Bruce Hardy's bus to the Octorara School District.

Someday a stranger will read your e-mail without your permission or scan the Website you've visited,or perhaps someone will casually glance through your credit card purchases or cell phone bills to find out your shopping preferences or calling habits.
In fact,it's likely some of these things have already happened to you.Who would watch you without your permisson? It might be a spouse,a girlfriend,a marketing company,a boss,a cop or a criminal.Whoever it is,?they will see you in a way you never intended to be seen-
the 21st century equivalent of being caught naked
.
Psychologists tell us boundaries are healthy, and that it's important to reveal yourself to friends, family and lovers in stages,at appropriate times. But few boundaries remain. The digital bread crumbs (碎屑) you leave everywhere make it easy for strangers to reconstruct who you are, where you are and what you like.In some cases,a simple Google search can reveal what you think.Like it or not, increasingly
we live in a world where you simply cannot keep a secret
.
The key question is:Does that matter?
For many Americans, the answer apparently is"No.
When opinion polls ask Americans about privacy, most say they are concerned about losing it.A survery found an overwhelming pessimism about privacy, with 60 percent of respondents saying they feel their privacy is"slipping away, and that bothers me."
But people say one thing and do another.Only a tiny fraction of Americans change any behaviors in an effort to preserve their privacy.Few people turn down a discount at tollbooths(收費站) to avoid using the EZ-Pass system that can track automobile movements. And few turn down supermarket loyalty cards.Privacy economist A lessandro Acauisti has run a series of tests that reveal people will surrender personal information like Social Security numbers just to get their hands on a pitiful 50-cents-off coupon (優(yōu)惠券).
But privacy does matter-at least sometimes. It's like health:When you have it,you don't notice it.Only when it's gone do you wish you'd done more to protect it.

A.There is always something you shouldn't reveal.
B.You should not always have good relationship with your friends and so on.
C.All friends should open their hearts to each other.
D.There should be fewer disputes and questions between friends.
(3)Why does the author say"we live in a world where you simply cannot keep a secret"?
A.Modern society has finally evolved into an open society.
B.Many search engines profit by revealing people's identities.
C.There are always people who are curious about others'affairs.
D.People leave traces around when using modern technology.
(4)According to the passage, privacy is like health in that
.
A.people will make every effort to keep it.
B.people don't care it until they lose it
C.is is something that can easily be lost

Being "young" is associated with all the good things in life-beauty,hope,and energy. But youth also has negative associations-impulsiveness,troublemaking,and irresponsibility. This negative side seems to be what society focuses on more, which is why young people have mostly been considered as idle and difficult.
But when it comes to Generation Z-those born between 1995 and 2010-
this stereotype
doesn't seem to apply anymore.
In Japan, for example,Gen Zers are less likely to buy on impulse, but take into consideration more a product's true value."They're looking at the companies, not just the products," Masahiko Uotani,CEO of Japanese cosmetics company Shiseido, told Bloomberg."They're asking,'Are they really delivering value to the society? Are they promoting diversity and inclusiveness?'"
Gen Zers are also more grounded than we've expected them to be.According to a recent survey by Bank of America, more than half of young adults aged between 18 and 23 said they were planning to buy a house within five years. And they're not just saying it-they are willing to make sacrifices for it,including getting a second job and saving money for a down payment instead of spending it on a vacation.
"Despite their young age, this group is pragmatic and actively planning for their future," D.Steve Boland, head of Consumer Lending at Bank of America, told USA Today."They have a clear vision of how they are willing to help themselves in order to make it happen."
Social issues are also at the center of concern of Gen Zers, who take themselves as a changing force of the world. In India, for example, young people who have just reached the voting age are eager to vote for a new leader who is capable of solving problems that matter the most to them, including pollution, unemployment and women's safety.
As a Gen Zer yourself, what is your plan for the future?
(1)What do the underlined words "this stereotype" in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.Being young is good.
B.Gen Zers are born after 1995.
C.The traditional poor impressions on the youth.
D.The associations with young people.
(2)We can infer from the third paragraph that
.
A.Gen Zers in Japan are picky
B.Gen Zers are self-centered
C.Gen Zers care little about products
D.Gen Zers are wise when shopping
(3)What's D.Steve Boland's attitude to the Gen Zers?
A.Approving.
B.Negative.
C.Indifferent.
D.Critical.
(4)Which of the following words may best describe the Gen Zers?
A.Confident and independent.
B.Visionary and responsible.
C.Persistent and down-to-earth.
D.Active and creative.

Fear is an emotion(情感) like others such as happiness, anger, hurt and sadness. We need emotions to process information we receive and decide how to respond.Being afraid of fast cars, for example,is something that might protect us from harm.Being afraid of the consequence of a choice may prevent us getting into trouble.
Fears in young children commonly center on certain animals like snakes or big dogs.Fears are caused often because of experiences or ideas expressed by others, and at times, the media. Many normal fears during the early years, like men with beards,or large dogs, disappear with age. Those fears relating to personal failure and ridicule (嘲笑) last through adulthood and may need special help to overcome.
Children's fears are often
trivial
,but that doesn't mean we should pay no attention to them. They need to be recognized and accepted as real for that child.Only when we help children understand their fears can they grow normally in their ability to deal with them.
Research shows that as a child grows up,the center of his fears changes a lot.Things like divorce,a teacher who "shouted at me",people with guns, bullies, big boys,or "making fun of me" top the list of childhood fears.
We cannot always prevent these experiences from happening, but it's essential that children be allowed to freely express their emotions without judgment.Sympathy and a caring listener will help ease the pain of these fears.Read books and stories to your child about children who have experienced similar fears. This helps children talk about their fears and find ways to handle. With all emotions, fears become less of a problem for children as they gain self-confidence and they find that fear is common and can be dealt with.
(1)According to Paragraph 2,we can know that fears in young children
.
A.only center on frightening animals
B.a(chǎn)re not born but learned
C.can make sure of their safety
D.need special help to deal with
(2)The underlined word "trivial" in the third paragraph probably means "
".
A.common
B.serious
C.harmful
D.small
(3)From the passage we can learn that
.
A.children with similar fears can communicate easily
B.children should avoid the media to reduce their fears
C.fears can be judged according to the environment
D.some childhood fears may have a lasting influence
(4)What's the best title for this passage?
A.Children's Fears.
B.How to Overcome Children's Fears.
C.The Kind of Children's Fears.
D.The Bad Effects of Fears.
